Bringing the Farm to the City

Farming in Australia has been and is a large part of our culture, heritage and economy. Many would say our great country developed on the "sheep's back". Australian Farmyard Friends enables Australians, particularly children, to experience Australian farm animals one on one. We bridge the gap and bring the animals to you.

Since white settlement, Australia's agricultural history is embodied in the history of this great nation itself. Development of Australia owes much to agriculture. The first fleet arrived at Sydney on 26th January 1788. Arriving as part of the first fleet were 29 sheep, 7 british breed cows, a bull calf and a handful of other livestock. The first settlers struggled with the new and varied climate and environment. Establishing a self-supporting colony proved difficult and disastrous. Clearing was hard work, droughts, floods and plagues of caterpillars ruined many settlers. Through perseverance, persistence, hard work and foresight, agricultural and farming developed to shape and play a significant economic and cultural role in this great country. In the mid 90's the rural sector accounted for 3.8% of GDP, provided 30% of Australia's merchandise exports and directly/indirectly employed 30% of the Australian work force.

A visit from Australian Farmyard Friends is an experience that is unequaled. Children and adults alike cherish the time and learn from the experience, gaining greater appreciation of farm animals and farming.

Australian Farmyard Friends is based at Devon Meadows near the Mornington Peninsula, Victoria.
